Scabies treatment reaction: Normal or cause for concern?

Patient's Query

been diagnosed with scabies and applies permethrin cream on the 3rd of april. after research i can see improvements are not quick to see but i am seeing a much larger increase of rashes on different parts of my body that weren’t there and the existing ones, like my left hand, looks like the rashes have developed bumps and look more prominent. is this a normal reaction to the cream and should i be worried that it has made it worse? should i try ignore it until my second treatment?

Answered by Dr. Anju Methil

Are rashes getting worse after using permethrin cream? Relax, that's normal. The mites are dying, which can cause irritation and make the rashes appear worse briefly. Don't worry—this means the treatment is working. Keep at it steadily and follow the instructions carefully. Contact a dermatologist if symptoms escalate severely or if discomfort spikes alarmingly.

I am 40 yrs old female, I have had pigmentation with bad itching on cheeks and forehead since a month now. I consulted a doctor and used ointment clarina, but still not even a slight change, and pigmentation is increasing instead, pls advice

You must see a dermatologist for a proper diagnosis and treatment plan. They may prescribe a topical cream or other treatment to help reduce the pigmentation and itching. They may also recommend certain lifestyle changes to help manage the condition.

My mother has developed red patches on skin all over her body. Initially it occurs as a small red patch and then it widens and spreads . These red patches have occurred on her neck, breast, tummy, legs, head, back, elbow , everywhere. She has also developed cuts on her finger. It itches and burns very much. What is the diagnosis of this skin disease?

Female | 55

Your description of the symptoms leads me to believe that your mother has a skin condition called eczema. Eczema is characterized by the appearance of red, itchy patches on the skin. It can be caused or aggravated by certain substances or environmental factors. To alleviate the symptoms, it is necessary to maintain the skin's hydration and avoid irritants. Using mild soaps and wearing comfortable, breathable clothes can also be helpful.

Female | 23

Having breast and armpit aches for a long time is unusual. It's crucial to get examined. These pains could stem from hormonal shifts, infections, or breast tissue issues. Determining the cause requires medical consultation. A doctor can suggest appropriate treatment after diagnosis.

Hair loss can occur due to several reasons like stress, bad diet, or genetic factors. The signs of it are thinning hair or bald patches. To help your hair grow back, try eating a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals, reduce stress, and use gentle hair care products. It can be a slow process, but hair may recover with careful treatment and perseverance!

Can i get hpv from sharing clothes , towels or my personal items or objects from someone who has genital warts ?

Male | 32

Genital warts are caused by a virus known as HPV. It is impossible to be infected with HPV through the sharing of clothes, towels, or objects of personal hygiene. The most common way for HPV to spread is through skin-to-skin contact, usually during sexual activity. The general symptoms of genital warts are the presence of small, flesh-colored bumps in the genital area. In case you happen to be concerned about HPV then the best thing to do is to talk to a healthcare provider about preventing and treating it.

Hello doctor. I am rohit bisht. I am 18 years old. Please suggest me how to recover and stop hair whitening

Male | 18

Hair going white with age or being genetic is a usual thing. Skin problems and tension also cause this. Do something for yourself if under stress; take deep breaths maybe start doing yoga. Have a balanced diet rich in vitamins and minerals as they play a crucial role in preventing premature greying. If possible use plant-based dyes because they don’t contain harmful chemicals however; don’t forget to handle your hair gently while dying it so that you may not end up damaging it further.

Female | 33

It sounds like you may have eczema, a common skin condition that can cause itching, redness, and irritation. To determine if this is the case, you should see a dermatologist. The dermatologist can recommend an appropriate treatment plan that may include topical medications, light therapy, or oral medications. Additionally, lifestyle changes can help to manage symptoms including avoiding potential triggers, wearing loose fitting clothing, and using a humidifier in your home.
