What is about ICL surgery,my son aged 22 years have 7-8 numbers in both eyes

Answered by Samruddhi Bhartiya

  • ICL stands for implantable collamer lens (ICL), this artificial lens is permanently fitted inside the eye, and can work effectively for people with: myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism.
  • Somethings to know about this implant surgery:
    • It can correct nearsightedness.
    • It can be reversed (in other words these lens can be removed if your son doesn't gets used to them).
  • Be aware of risks associated with this surgery, if these implants are not fixed properly then the surgery can lead up to:
    • Eye disease (glaucoma, cataracts)
    • Vision loss or blurred vision
    • Detachment of retina
  • While the common side effects are: pain & discomfort
  • Your son may be prone to risks if he's:
    • on a course of medicines related to vision problems
    • affected by some condition that inhibits healing of wounds
    • fails to meet minimum requirements of endothelial cell count (doctor will inform)
  • Note: 7 and 8 is too far from zero and may mean that an individual is already at risk of retinal issues, so please put this across to the surgeon and know how prepared they are to handle any resulting consequences.
Also discuss in advance, regarding what kind of risks will they compensate and in what manner.

Discuss with doctor at length, your son's health conditions & family history, pre-operative measures, post-operation care, his own experience and success rate with past patients.

Wearing wrong glasses causes only discomfort and eyestrains. If you have any doubt it is better to go for a second opinion.

You might have a problem looking at distant objects which may indicate myopia (nearsightedness). Do not forget to visit an ophthalmologist who will carry out a full eye examination to know the reason behind your vision problems and to receive the correct treatment.

When I work out at the gym, my eye starts to swell after the workout. I consulted an eye specialist, who said it’s an allergy. However, when I jog or walk outside, nothing happens. In the gym, if I lift weights, even light ones, my eye starts to swell later. When I do floor exercises like push-ups, I feel like there's a foreign object in my eye, causing a twitching sensation. This only happens with exercises that involve pressure.looking like muscle weakness. It also happens after swimming. This issue never occurred before, and I’ve been doing these activities for the past four years without any problems. I have consulted various doctors and spent a lot of money, but I have not found a solution.

Male | 24

You might be having allergic reactions triggered by your exercise. When you do certain workouts at the gym, like lifting weights or floor exercises, your eye swells up. This could be due to allergens at the gym or materials from the equipment. It's good that outdoor activities don't cause this problem. To prevent the symptoms, try wearing protective eyewear (goggles) at the gym or using antihistamine eye drops before you work out. It's a good idea to consult with an allergist for a complete evaluation and management plan.

I am from pakistan there is blood in my left eye

Male | 38

If there is blood in your left eye, then it is a symptom of a severe eye condition. I highly recommend you to see an ophthalmologist who can make a correct diagnosis and treatment without delay. Do not postpone seeking for medical help or risk losing your vision.
