Daytime Retention After Cath Removal: Why Does It Happen?

Patient's Query

Why does my husband have some daytime retention after recent cath removal but he gushes at night?

Answered by Dr. Neeta Verma

Urinary retention during the day and post-catheter gushing of the bladder at night may indicate bladder muscle weakness or any obstruction to the bladder. I suggest that you see urologist as it needs to perform a physical examination and some tests

These could be signs of an infection or inflammation in the genital area. Consult a doctor to properly diagnose and treat your condition. They may recommend further urine sample or swab test, to identify the cause. It is not recommended to self medicate or rely solely on antibiotics without proper medical guidance
