Hair transplant how long does it last?
Generally, the transplanted hair will last for your complete life.
Healing post-surgery will take anywhere between 6 to 12 months, and you will witness a lot of shedding in this period. But once you are fully healed, the transplanted follicles begin to fill the balding patches on your scalp. This hair will continue to grow naturally even as you age.
While these hair follicles are permanent, they too have a lifespan like the rest of your hair follicles and will gradually produce less hair than before. Hope this answers your query.
According to the reports released by fortune business insights in 2018, the market size for this surgery stood at 5.94 billion worldwide, and India saw a huge potential for hair transplant surgeries.
Alongside India, even Turkey can be considered a strong contender for hair transplant surgery owing to its affordable prices.
If you are interested in undergoing hair transplant surgery at reasonable prices, then we have a list of various centers spanning across Turkey, reach out to us for further assistance.

when does transplanted hair thicken?
Post hair transplant surgery, the transplanted hair goes through multiple phases and is observed to be thinner in the initial stages.
The transplanted hair thickens 6 to 9 months after hair transplant surgery, also known as the "hair busting phase."
At this stage, your transplanted hair follicles will grow at the same rate and pace as your older follicles.
However, in this stage, you are only seeing a drastic change in your growth. Final results will take a year to a year and a half to show up.
We have a detailed list of hair transplant surgeons in India as well as Turkey for further consultations and suggestions. Reach out to us if you need our assistance!

when to get a hair transplant?
When to get a hair transplant?
Legally, hair transplant surgery can be performed on anyone above the age of 18, but for practical reasons, it is advisable not to undergo this surgery until you reach the age of 30.
- Your hairline is still forming between the age of 18 and 29.
- Before recommending a hair transplant, the surgeon will consider various factors which will be difficult to assess before you attain the age of 30, such as:
- Hair loss type and causes,
- Hair loss pattern,
- Quality of the donor's hair,
- Size of the balding area.
- Hairline pattern and health
- As patients approach their 30s, their hair loss slows down and becomes more predictable.
- Possible risks from early hair transplant surgery (that is, before the age of 30):
- The transplanted hair will be fixated permanently, but hair loss will be progressive, so over the course of the next few years, you will lose more hair, while a permanent strip of the transplanted hair will remain. This will give an unnatural look.
- May contribute to premature hair loss owing to the addition of more hair on healthy spots, which may have not been attacked by pattern baldness.
- While waiting till 30 is advisable, there are some exceptions depending on individual patients and their requirements.
Other considerations for hair transplant surgery apart from balding pattern and age:
- Individuals who lost hair from scarring, scalp injuries, or surgical procedures.
- People who desire to thicken their eyebrows, mustaches, or beards.
- Patients who underwent hair restoration procedures before the surgery.

how to cover head after hair transplant?
To answer your question regarding how to cover head after hair transplant, we would first like to begin with a word of caution, that is to not wear any head gear for at least 10 days till the grafts are completely anchored post hair transplant surgery.
Because any form of manipulation or compression from such garments during this stage, can render your hair follicles damaged and result in visible empty patches on your scalp.
However, after 10 days of wait it would be beneficial for you to cover your head, as the same would protect your hair follicles from sunlight, rain, dirt, or wind.
Mentioned below are some tips that you can follow while covering your head after hair transplant:
- For the initial 2-3 weeks avoid any tight headwear, and ensure that the headwear doesn't come in contact with scars or newly implanted hair.
- The hat of your choice should be loose, big, and adjustable, such as bucket hats, or bandanas which offer more control.
- For bandanas, avoid cotton or any fabric that can stick to your hair and displace them (adjust them loosely).
- Tighter hats such as cap for hair transplant, beanies, hoods, or baseball caps are prohibited in this stage, so it's advisable to not wear cap after hair transplant.
- Use both your hands while taking headgear off, to decrease the amount of contact and rubbing.
- Don't cover your head for more than 5 hours in a day, as the incisions and new hair grafts should have some exposure to fresh air every day.
- Avoid wearing headweard when there's too much heat.
- You can't wear motorcycle helmets for the first 6 weeks after hair transplant. In addition to extreme pressure, it may also cause sweating and infections.
- After 2-3 weeks your hair would have become firmer and more strongly attached to the scalp, so wearing caps would be permissible.
- Ensure that your headwear remains clean, as any foreign matter may cause an infection.

when can i touch my transplanted hair?
You can touch your transplanted hair at all times post hair transplant surgery, but the intensity with which you are supposed to will vary depending on the extent to which your scalp has healed.
Usually, it takes approximately 8-14 days for the grafts to settle, but your hair will still be weak. Following the steps below will protect your grafts:
- You can touch your scalp once your bandages are removed, that is 2 to 5 days after the surgery.
- After removing bandages, you can give a gentle wash to your hair daily, without applying too much pressure with your hands. Just rinse using clean water.
- Before washing your hair, you need to moisturize the transplanted area and rinse gently with warm water.
- After washing your hair, PAT your hair gently with a towel and do not use rubbing motions. Also, avoid hair dryers for 1-2 weeks.
- Brushing or combing your new grafts will be strictly prohibited for around 3 weeks.
- To reduce contact between your pillow and transplanted hair, you will have to sleep with your head in an elevated position.
- Avoid wearing any headgear for the first 10 days ((but once the roots are settled in, it will be beneficial to cover your hair especially when outside, to protect your hair from the sun)).
Please avoid any of the activities mentioned below:
- Don’t touch your grafts heavily while showering or grooming.
- Don’t indulge in strenuous activities for the first 14 days post hair transplant surgery.
- Don’t undergo any surgery or treatment which can disturb your scalp for at least three months post hair transplant surgery.
