How often should you get dental xrays?
Answered by Shruti Samant
Your medical and dental history as well as present health are important factors.
- Some people may require X-rays as frequently as every six months, while those who visit their dentist frequently and have no recent tooth or gum disease may only need X-rays once a year.
- Your dentist could do an initial exam that includes X-rays in order to provide a baseline record from which to compare any changes over time.
- If you have crowns, implants, fillings, and bridges, then dental x-rays are recommended every 12 to 18 months. By doing that, you can monitor underlying decay and cavity build-up in your teeth.

only if you want to know the periapical pathology or the spread of cavities.the exposure of dental x-ray is very minimal so no cause of worry

HiGenerally dental x rays are done only if the dentist thinks he/she needs one to rule out /diagnose a diseaseSo rather than a getting a dental x ray ,its recommended to get an annual dental checkup and if need be then a x ray.
Answered by Dr. Ketan Revanwar
Dental X-ray frequency varies, based on your individual oral health needs and history. Dental X-rays may be required for adults with good oral health every two to three years. Yet, people with chronic dental disease or at an increased risk of developing such conditions may need them more often. However, the suggested frequency of X-rays should be followed under whichever condition and circumstances your dentist evaluates will best suit you. In order to ensure adequacy of oral health and the need for x-rays, regular dental checkups are required.
