chronic periodontitis treatment plan?
Patient's Query
Sir I have been diagnosed with chronic periodontitis. I have inflammation and pain. Which periodontal disease treatment is suitable for my case? Do I have to remove my tooth also?
Answered by Dr. Sanket Chakraverty
Xray is a must for Ronnie priorities. We need to evaluate further with x-rays. We have to do deep scaling and polishing. The patient can use specific Gum toothpastes after deep scaling.

Hello. Chronic Periodontitis can be treated by a Periodontist. Depending on the stage it is in treatments can be done accordingly. Teeth may not be required to be removed unless it is absolutely mobile. You can share an OPG xray.

Hi... chronic periodontitis sometimes needs teeth extraction (only those which are too loose). Others can be saved by bone grafting and flap surgery with laser.

As a Dentist, I can understand your concern regarding the diagnosis of Chronic Generalized Periodontitis. This condition is a chronic inflammatory disease that affects the tissues supporting your teeth, including the gums, ligaments, and bone. Without proper treatment, it can lead to tooth loss and other oral health problems.
The good news is that there are effective periodontal treatments available to manage Chronic Generalized Periodontitis. The goal of treatment by dentist is to remove the bacterial plaque and calculus (tartar) that accumulate on the teeth and roots, causing inflammation and tissue damage.
Periodontal treatment usually involves non-surgical and/or surgical procedures. Non-surgical procedures include scaling and root planing (deep cleaning), which involves removing plaque and tartar from below the gumline, and sometimes laser therapy or antibiotics. Surgical procedures may include flap surgery, bone grafting, guided tissue regeneration, or gum grafting.
Whether or not your teeth need to be removed will depend on the severity of your condition and how well it responds to treatment. In some cases, advanced periodontal disease may require extraction of one or more teeth. However, this is usually a last resort when all other treatment options have been exhausted.
It is important to note that periodontal disease is a chronic condition, and ongoing maintenance and monitoring will be necessary to prevent further damage and maintain your oral health. This may include regular periodontal cleanings, frequent dental check-ups, and a good home oral hygiene routine.
I recommend that you schedule an appointment with a periodontist to discuss your individual case and treatment options. With proper care, it is possible to manage Chronic Generalized Periodontitis and maintain a healthy smile.

To decide treatment plan you need a OPG x-ray to be taken, that will tell us the bone level available If sufficient bone level is there, periodontal surgery can be done. However if the bone level is very poor, extraction is the only option left.

An OPG will be a good idea to answer this question. Post an OPG and intra oral pictures to answer your question effectively.

If more than 50 percent of bone is available that support tooth root than a flap surgery can save your tooth orlese if no bone support is present extraction of that tooth is necessary to avoid spread of your bone loss due to periodontitis
