I am a 24 Female. Weighs 60kg and 171cm tall. Yesterday my medical checkup report came out. My glucose level is 3.9. everything else is good except my cholesterol level is at 6.4. I don't overeat, sometimes skip my meals. I don't drink sugary drinks. I know my eating habit isn't that bad but was kind of shocked about my cholesterol level. Both of my parents have high cholesterol level but was only diagnosed in their 40s. Can i know what is wrong and how should i handle this?

A cholesterol level of 6.5 mmol/L is considered very high.

Your doctor will also look at ratios of your good and bad cholesterol and whether you have any risk factors of heart disease. Cholesterol is a fat produced by the cells in the body and obtained from animal-based foods.

The first step in reducing your cholesterol is to maintain a healthy, balanced diet. It's important to keep your diet low in fatty food.

You can swap food containing saturated fat for fruit, vegetables and wholegrain cereals. This will also help prevent high cholesterol from returning.

Other lifestyle changes, such as taking regular exercise and giving up smoking, can also make a big difference in helping to lower your cholesterol.

If these measures don't reduce your cholesterol and you continue to have a high risk of developing heart disease, your GP may prescribe a cholesterol-lowering medication, such as statins.

Your doctor will take into account the risk of any side effects from statins. The benefit of lowering your cholesterol must outweigh any risks.

Pre op mtf and ftm, what to expect?

Before undergoing mtf or ftm, the doctor may suggest doing some tests.

Tests for mtf

  • Hormone level testing
  • Pelvic exam
  • Breast exam
  • Prostate cancer screening

Tests for ftm

  • Hormone level testing
  • Pelvic exam
  • Breast exam
  • Cervical cancer screening

Other than the tests, the healthcare provider may give certain instructions. For example, if you are planning for a hormone therapy, you may be given instructions on how to take the hormone medications and how to monitor for potential side effects etc. And in case of a surgery also, you may be given certain instructions on the diet you need to follow, and which medications you should take or not take, etc.

It is important to work closely with your healthcare provider and follow all the guidelines and instructions given by him to have a smooth transition journey.
